Isolation and Full-Length Genome Characterization of SARS-CoV-2 from COVID-19 Cases in Egypt

In response to the global Covid-19 pandemic, the Biochemistry& Molecular Biology lab , TBRI have reached a major step in the battle against coronavirus. The research team headed by prof. Mohamed Shemis was able to isolate and sequence the full genome of SARS-Cov-2. The full-genome sequencing of viral isolates is an important step to understand the genetic evolution of the virus during the pandemic and to track the origin of the viruses that reached the Region. The availability of viral isolates allows research on diagnostic, antivirals and vaccines to take place effectively. The sequences are available to the scientific community in GenBank sequence database.
