Biography

Name: Hassnaa Ahmed Mahmoud Saleh Present position: Assistant Professor at Environmental Research Department, Theodor Bilharz Research Institute. Research Interests and expertise: • My research at the Environmental Research and Medical Malacology Division focuses on assessing the effect of different chemical pollutants on aquatic organisms in freshwater environments and finding solutions for remediation of these pollutants using biological methods such as algae, bacteria and aquatic plants. • The field works in natural areas for samples collection of soil, water and some snail's vectors, and assessing water quality for environmental pollution assessment through the detection of physical and chemical factors. • Isolation and identification of bacterial strains from water and soil samples where and when needed. • I am interested in investigating the use of freshwater snails as bioindicators for environmental toxicity.

Estimation of pesticide residues in certain Gharbeya watercourses, Egypt: Insight into bacterial abundance and Metallothionein Biomarker in snails

Scopus

Research Type: Research article  |  Domain: Environmental pollution and remediation

Publish Type: Published

Publish Date: 2026-03-28

Abstract:

This study investigates metallothionein gene expression in Biomphalaria alexandrina as a biomarker for pesticide stress and examines bacterial abundance in pesticide-contaminated water in Gharbeya, Egypt. Pyrethroids and triazoles were detected in water and sediment samples, exceeding WHO limits. Cy...

Influence of Chlorella vulgaris and Pediastrum boryanum extracts carried on nanocellulose on the immune response of Biomphalaria alexandrina snails against Schistosoma mansoni infection

Scopus

Research Type: Research article  |  Domain: Environmental pollution and remediation

Publish Type: Published

Publish Date: 2025-01-01

Abstract:

Continuous efforts are made to explore alternative methods for reducing Schistosomiasis. So, this study evaluated the effectiveness of Chlorella vulgaris and Pediastrum boryanum extracts carried on their nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) as immunostimulants for Biomphalaria alexandrina snails against...

Impacts of Climate Change on Water Quality using GIS Technique in Water Courses at Egyptian Delta Governorates

Scopus

Research Type: Research article  |  Domain: Environmental pollution and remediation

Publish Type: Published

Publish Date: 2023-11-01

Abstract:

The present work aimed to study the water quality of six Delta Egyptian governorates using ArcGIS maps. Compared to winter, water temperature was higher during summer in all selected governorates. Dissolved oxygen (D.O.) was higher than in summer during winter in all selected governorates. The maxim...

Molluscicidal, histopathological and genotoxic effects of Scenedesmus obliquus and Spirulina platensis extracts and their biosynthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles on Biomphalaria alexandrina

Scopus

Research Type: Research article  |  Domain: Environmental pollution and remediation

Publish Type: Published

Publish Date: 2022-04-24

Abstract:

Searching for molluscicidal agents of biological origin is mandatory to avoid the drawbacks of using chemical molluscicides. Algae are good candidates as sources of compounds with molluscicidal properties, especially if they are combined with modern techniques such as nanotechnology. This study aime...

Effect of some freshwater cyanobacteria on Oreochromis niloticus (L.) fish and water quality in Egyptian aquaculture ponds

Scopus

Research Type: Research article  |  Domain: Environmental pollution and remediation

Publish Type: Published

Publish Date: 2022-04-11

Abstract:

The present study aims to evaluate the potential effects of cyanobacteria on water quality parameters and Oreochromis niloticus in the fish ponds at Al-Abbassa Fish Hatchery, Sharkia Governorate, Egypt. The study identified five cyanobacterial genera: namely, Anabaena, Gleotrichia, Lyngbya, Oscillat...

Pollution by organochlorine and organophosphorus pesticides residues in watercourses of some Egyptian governorates with reference to the distribution of macroinvertebrates

Scopus

Research Type: Research article  |  Domain: Environmental pollution and remediation

Publish Type: Published

Organization: w

Publish Date: 2020-08-12

Abstract:

The paper reports an assessment of the quality of some water courses located in three Egyptian governorates by investiga tion of organochlorine and organophosphorus pesticides residues, and the distribution of macroinvertebrates. Water and sediment samples were collected from the investigated...
