About Specialized Unit


  • The Climate Change Research Program is under the auspices and chairmanship of Professor Dr. / Director of the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute and Chairman of the Board of Directors.

    General and technical supervision of the program is led by Prof. Dr. Nahed Mohamed Mohamed Ismail, Professor in the Department of Environmental Research. This includes technical supervision of the program, preparation of periodic meetings, seminars, and conferences, follow-up communications with experts from outside the Institute, scientific institutions, and universities to collaborate in the field of climate change, and writing periodic reports for the program. Administrative tasks are carried out by the Program's

    Administrative Director, Assistant Prof. Dr. Sara Sayed Mahmoud Sayed, Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Environmental Research.

    The program also includes several members from the Department of Environmental Research: Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Abdullah Azzam, Prof. Dr. Hasnaa Ahmed Mahmoud, Prof. Dr. Asmaa Abdel Motaleb, Dr. Hassan El Sayed Fleifel, and Dr. Susan Ezz El Din Mahmoud. Members from the Department of Medical Malacology include: Prof. Dr. Hanaa Abdel Moneim Abu El Enein, Dr. Marwa Mahmoud, Assistant Professor Sherine Mahfouz, and Assistant Professor Amina Mohamed Ibrahim.

Mission


  • This program will assess the impacts of climate change, from a worldwide to a regional view of ecosystems and biodiversity, and review the implications for humans and their diverse societies, cultures, and settlements.
  • Hence, it will guide adaptation and mitigation efforts to reduce climate-related risks to the environment and the spread of diseases, and thus to human health, along with options to create a sustainable, resilient, and equitable future for all.
  • Using the Climatic Models to analyze the past and the present scientific data to predict the future overview.
  • It will be create an Environmental map by using GIS and GPS to predict the future biodiversity of the aquatic ecosystem.
  • It will be prepare reports every 6 months about the obtained results covering the present status of environmental conditions, especially those related to our studies and climate change.
  • It will be create a link of cooperation between other organizations such as the Ministry of Health, the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA), the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources, and the Egyptian Meteorological Authority in the field of climate change.
  • This program will be the focal point of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI) and the Climate Change Center in the National Research Centre (NRC), in which we already participate.
  • It will be held regular seminars and conferences by cooperating with Experts from other organizations and universities in Egypt. 
  • Cooperation with all departments of the TBRI in the field of climate change and its relationship with the clinical and scientific departments of the institute will be enhanced.
  • Periodic meetings of the program members will be held monthly or every two months to discuss the program achievements and what has been done. The program has the right to host experts from outside the institute to attend these periodic meetings to present their experiences and ways of cooperating with them in the field of climate change.

Vision


  • With regard to our area of interest, this program will provide a clear scientific view of the current state of knowledge in the field of climate change and its potential health, environmental, and socio-economic impacts on humans.
  • This program comes in line with what is stipulated in the Egypt 2030 strategy, which recommends adaptation and mitigation of the effects of climate change in Egypt.
  • The importance of this program is in line with Egypt's hosting of the International Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP 27), which will be held in November 2022. As much as possible, with the data that will come out, it will be among the preparations for this global conference.
