Professor Ahmed H. I. Helmy graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, in 1982. He completed postgraduate surgical training in Egypt and the UK, obtaining the FRCS (Edinburgh) in 1995. He has worked as a Consultant General Surgeon in Egypt and the NHS since 2001, with expertise in General, Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB), and Transplantation Surgery. Appointed Professor of Surgery at the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI) in 2006, he later served as Head of the Department of General Surgery (2007–2013) and Dean of the Surgical Division (2018–2019). He also holds qualifications in Healthcare and Hospital Management from Cairo University and the American University in Cairo and was an instructor in healthcare management from 2009 to 2018. His interests include surgical education, clinical governance, research, and quality improvement. He was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus in 2019.
