Cooperation Protocol between Theodor Bilharz Research Institute and the Faculty of Medicine – Mansoura National University

Protocol Objectives
The protocol aims to establish collaboration between Theodor Bilharz Research Institute and the Faculty of Medicine – Mansoura National University to nurture a new generation of researchers in the medical and health fields. The objective is to promote scientific advancement without compromising environmental factors. As the largest institute of its kind in Egypt and the region specializing in scientific research, Theodor Bilharz Research Institute, together with the Faculty of Medicine, possesses the training and research tools necessary to achieve this goal. The protocol seeks to prepare distinguished young individuals equipped with the knowledge and specialized skills needed within a framework of equality, mutual cooperation, and the exchange of privileges between both parties.

Areas of Joint Cooperation
• Joint research and scientific projects.
• Exchange of scientists and experts, especially in the fields of liver and kidney transplantation, as well as diseases of the digestive system, liver, kidneys, and urology.
• Training programs for postgraduate students and recent graduates.
• Organizing medical convoys and awareness campaigns for communities surrounding both institutions and other underserved areas.
• Exchange of expertise and support related to accreditation by the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR) and other forms of cooperation as may be mutually agreed upon in the future.
• Organization of conferences, seminars, workshops, and scientific meetings on a regular basis in various fields of mutual interest.

Exchange of Experts
Faculty members of the Faculty of Medicine – Mansoura National University may participate in research and scientific activities at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute, and vice versa. Members of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute may also participate in research and scientific activities within the Faculty of Medicine – Mansoura National University when needed, with the approval of the relevant authority. Each party shall grant the visiting members the same rights and obligations as its own staff in all aspects except for financial entitlements.

Financial Regulations
Faculty members, assistant staff, research students, and their equivalents working at the Faculty of Medicine – Mansoura National University shall be granted the same work-related benefits as their counterparts at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute regarding access to equipment, laboratories, and related financial arrangements. Similarly, research fellows, assistant researchers, research assistants, specialists, contractors, secondees, and their equivalents working at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute shall receive the same benefits as their counterparts at the Faculty of Medicine – Mansoura National University in relation to the use of laboratories, services, and related matters.

Intellectual Property Rights
The production, publication, and distribution of scientific articles and other works resulting from joint research under this agreement shall be subject to the approval of both parties. Ownership shall be shared between the two institutions, and both parties shall ensure the protection of intellectual property in accordance with applicable Egyptian laws.

Duration, Implementation, and Coordination Mechanism
The parties have agreed that this protocol shall remain valid for three calendar years from the date of signing and shall be automatically renewed thereafter. Each party shall appoint an executive coordinator responsible for supervising and coordinating the implementation of the agreed provisions. For the execution of this protocol, Professor Dr. Tarek Mahmoud Diab Mohamed shall act as the cooperation protocol coordinator for Theodor Bilharz Research Institute, and Professor Dr. Amira Ibrahim Taman shall act as the coordinator for Mansoura National University.
