Introductory Lecture on the New Promotions Regulations for Researchers at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute
As part of efforts to support academic advancement and develop research and scientific policies, and under the patronage of Professor Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Director of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute, the Institute held a specialized lecture on the new promotions regulations. These regulations outline the conditions and requirements for the promotion of researchers within research centers, institutes, and organizations. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Wafaa Kandeel, former Director of the Institute and Chair of the Higher Promotions Committee.
The event was attended by heads of departments, members of permanent scientific committees, and members of the research staff and their assistants. During the session, Dr. Wafaa Kandeel presented the key aspects of the new regulations, including updated criteria for evaluating researchers' scientific output and application procedures. The lecture also provided a detailed explanation of the regulation’s content, which aims to enhance academic integrity, promote applied scientific research, ensure the quality of scientific publications — including the requirement to publish in internationally indexed journals — uphold research ethics, and improve the quality of educational and training activities included in the promotion file. It also addressed the general directions of the promotion process in line with the latest developments in scientific assessment mechanisms.
Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz emphasized that organizing such events is part of the Institute’s commitment to fostering a supportive scientific environment based on transparency and equal opportunity, and to providing researchers with the necessary information to enhance their academic capabilities and improve the quality of research outputs. He noted that the implementation of the new promotions regulations represents a qualitative leap in establishing standards of scientific research quality and enhancing academic performance, in alignment with national goals for developing the academic and research landscape.
This initiative reflects the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute’s keenness to stay abreast of organizational developments in various scientific research sectors and to raise researchers’ awareness of the modern standards and regulations that govern academic work, thereby contributing to the establishment of a culture of continuous development and supporting the pursuit of excellence and the highest standards of quality.
