Research Innovations Take Center Stage… Winners of Best Posters Honored at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute Conference 2026

In a display reflecting the dynamism of scientific research and the spirit of innovation, Theodor Bilharz Research Institute organized a distinguished scientific poster exhibition as part of its 2026 annual conference. The exhibition served as an interactive platform, bringing together researchers' expertise and ideas, and showcasing their latest scientific findings across diverse medical and research fields.

The exhibition witnessed broad participation from young researchers both within and outside the institute. They presented research projects that demonstrated a high level of scientific rigor and a diversity of topics, enriching scientific discussion and fostering the exchange of expertise among participants and specialists.

The submitted posters underwent rigorous evaluation by a specialized scientific committee, based on criteria including innovation, scientific quality, and applicability, ensuring the selection of the most outstanding and impactful works.

At the conclusion of the event, the top three research posters were recognized, as follows:

First Place: Poster titled  "Retrospective Cohort Study of Management of Biliary Complications Post Liver Transplantation With Risk Factors Prediction For Surgical Intervention." by Mohamed Ezzat Elwahsh, Mohamed Mostafa Ahmed, Hesham Abd Elaziz Elmeligy, Amr Mostafa Gomaa, and Hany Said Abd Elbaset.

Presented by Dr. Mohamed Ezzat Elwahsh, Department of General Surgery, Theodor Bilharz Research Institute.

Second Place: Poster titled "Single-Cell and Spatial Analyses Identify a Hypoxic CSC SPP1+ Macrophage Niche in Hepatocellular Carcinoma." by Rahma Abdel Halim and Hagar El-Azab.

Presented by Dr. Rahma Abdel Halim, Faculty of Science, Cairo University, 

Third Place: Poster titled "Seeds of Change: Pumpkin Seed Oil’s Dual-Action Impact on Biomphalaria alexandrina snails and Schistosoma mansoni larval stages" by Shimaa Essam Mohammed, Hanan Shahat Mossalem, Rasha Mohamed Gad El-Karim, Ayman Tosson Morsy, and Asmaa Mostafa Ammar.

Presented by Dr. Rasha Mohamed Gad El-Karim, Department of Medical Malacology, Theodor Bilharz Research Institute.

In his closing remarks, while honoring the winners of the top three places, Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Director of the Institute and President of the Conference, expressed his appreciation for the outstanding scientific level demonstrated in the participating research. He emphasized that these projects reflect the promising capabilities of researchers who are able to make a real impact in the fields of scientific research and medical application.

He pointed out that supporting young researchers is a fundamental priority, through providing a stimulating scientific environment that allows them to develop their ideas and transform them into applications that contribute to serving society and addressing health challenges.

This event comes as part of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute’s ongoing efforts to support scientific innovation and promote the role of applied research, where poster presentations are no longer just a scientific participation, but have become a real space to discover promising ideas, refine researchers’ skills, and build bridges of scientific communication.
