Theodor Bilharz Research Institute Organizes Pioneering Workshops on Endoscopic Ultrasound with Distinguished International Attendance
In a step that reaffirms the pioneering role of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI) as one of the leading medical institutions specialized in gastroenterology and hepatology in Egypt and the Middle East, the institute’s Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit organized an intensive scientific week. The program featured an advanced workshop on diagnostic endoscopic ultrasound, in addition to a specialized workshop on interventional endoscopic ultrasound, held in collaboration with the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO).
The event brought together a distinguished group of experts in gastrointestinal and liver endoscopy, alongside notable participation from trainee physicians representing several Arab countries, including Iraq, Jordan, Algeria, the Maghreb region, and Saudi Arabia. This reflects the institute’s regional and international standing in supporting specialized medical training programs and sharing expertise according to the highest global standards.
The activities came as part of a strategic vision led by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Director of TBRI and Chairman of the Board, to establish the institute as a recognized regional hub for advanced medical education and training. The initiative aims to enhance knowledge exchange and improve physicians’ competencies in subspecialties through intensive clinical training while adopting the latest global technologies in diagnostic and interventional endoscopy.
The scientific week was marked by strong academic attendance from several Egyptian and international universities. Distinguished professors and experts enriched the workshops with their unique expertise, reflecting the institute’s commitment to providing a modern educational environment that helps build a new generation of physicians trained to the highest international standards.
The program included advanced workshops along with a specialized training course in diagnostic and interventional endoscopic ultrasound, coordinated and led by Dr. Khaled Ragab, a leading expert in this field. More than 25 complex cases were addressed during the workshops, involving precise therapeutic interventions for pancreatic and gastrointestinal tumors, using the latest safe sampling techniques that contribute to improving early diagnosis and effective treatment outcomes.
The workshops were organized under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ayman Abdel Aziz, Head of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department , with direct support and close follow-up from Prof. Dr. Ahmed El Samei, Head of the Clinical Medical Division, and Dr. Mohamed Fathy, Director of the Institute’s Hospital. The success of the workshops was also ensured by the active participation of the integrated medical team of the Endoscopy Unit, led by Dr. Sameh Badr, Head of the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit, along with the Anesthesia Department team headed by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Zidan, as well as the distinguished nursing staff, who played a vital role in the success of all medical interventions conducted during the week.
In his statement, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz emphasized that these activities reflect the institute’s deep belief in the importance of continuous training and staying up to date with the latest advancements in endoscopic diagnosis and treatment. He stressed that true investment in the healthcare sector begins with developing minds and skills, adding that the institute will continue to be an active partner in supporting the healthcare system in Egypt and the region through continuous medical education and internationally accredited training programs.
Thus, Theodor Bilharz Research Institute continues to lead the path of medical advancement in Egypt and the Arab world—not only through providing specialized medical services but also through generating knowledge and delivering high-level training content that enhances healthcare quality and meets the aspirations of the future in specialized medicine.
