Towards the comprehensive Health Insurance System, Theodor Bilharz Research Institute begins steps for accreditation by the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation
As part of its ongoing efforts to develop the healthcare system and raise the level of services provided, Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Director of the Institute and Chairman of the Board of Directors, announced the signing of a cooperation agreement with ISOS Company, specialized in preparing healthcare institutions for accreditation. The agreement marks the beginning of full preparations to obtain medical accreditation from the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation, in preparation for joining the Comprehensive Health Insurance System.
The signing was attended by several members of the Institute’s research body, the Institute’s Secretary General, heads of departments, quality and infection control units, as well as nursing supervisors. This was a clear message that preparation for accreditation is not merely an administrative decision but a shared responsibility that depends on the participation and integration of all teams within the institution.
The qualification plan includes several stages, starting with analyzing the current situation of the Institute and identifying requirements, followed by a thorough review of international standards and adapting them to fit the nature of work within the institution. It also involves developing policies and procedures to ensure full readiness for accreditation.
The plan further covers improving internal operating systems, applying safety and quality standards, preparing clear operating manuals, and focusing on continuous training for medical and administrative staff—especially the nursing sector, which represents one of the main pillars of quality.
A specialized quality team from the Institute, in collaboration with the company, will provide technical support to the Institute’s leadership, department heads, and unit managers through training and awareness sessions. These enable employees to understand and practically apply the accreditation requirements. Regular assessments will also be conducted to measure progress and ensure continuous improvement.
In his address during the event, Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz emphasized that the Institute’s accreditation journey represents a qualitative leap toward improving healthcare quality and enhancing the professional standards of all staff. He stressed that accreditation is not just a document, but rather a safety net for all healthcare workers, and the outcome of a long journey of hard work and continuous preparation. The ultimate goal is for all Institute staff to be fully capable of meeting accreditation standards and providing healthcare services worthy of the Egyptian citizen, aligned with the highest international benchmarks.
He added that this cooperation reflects a deep belief that sustainable development in healthcare can only be achieved through adherence to global quality standards and teamwork, aiming to achieve international accreditation and integration into the Comprehensive Health Insurance System. This step reaffirms the Institute’s standing as a leading medical and research institution committed to applying the highest quality standards, always placing the patient’s interest at the forefront.
Dr. Abdel Aziz concluded that Theodor Bilharz Research Institute aspires to become a model to be emulated among medical and research institutions in Egypt and the region.
