Theodor Bilharz Research Institute Expands International Collaboration: Participates in Global Conference in China on Combating Tropical Diseases
In line with Theodor Bilharz Research Institute’s strategy and its pioneering role in fostering international partnerships and the exchange of medical and scientific expertise, and under the guidance of Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Director of the Institute and Chairman of the Board, the Institute actively participated in the International Conference on Cross-Border Joint Prevention and Control Technologies for Major Tropical Diseases. The event was organized by the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases – Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China.
The Institute was represented at this significant international scientific forum by Associate Professor Dr. Hagar Fathi Abdel-Maksoud, Associate Professor in the Department of Parasitology and Head of the WHO Collaborating Center at the Institute. She was invited to participate in the closing session of the conference, where she shared her scientific expertise in session evaluations and engaged in knowledge exchange with an elite group of international experts.
The conference featured a comprehensive scientific program that included specialized lectures, practical training sessions, field visits, and interactive discussions among participants from various countries. Its aim was to strengthen regional and international cooperation in the fight against tropical diseases such as malaria and schistosomiasis. The program also highlighted China’s strategies for eliminating tropical diseases, as well as the latest tools in spatial epidemiology and global best practices.
This conference represented an important platform for international scientific collaboration, bringing together experts and researchers from over 30 countries, alongside partners from the World Health Organization and several leading global research institutions.
Within this context, the WHO Collaborating Center at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute serves as a cornerstone for advancing international engagement, enhancing the Institute’s global research presence, and fostering scientific partnerships that contribute to the advancement of research and medical services on both regional and international levels.
Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Director of the Institute, emphasized that this participation marks a significant milestone in strengthening the Institute’s international role. He stressed that exchanging expertise and learning from global experiences enhance the capabilities of Egyptian researchers. He further noted that the Institute remains committed to building scientific cadres capable of addressing global health challenges with effective research-driven solutions, thereby elevating the quality of medical services and consolidating the Institute’s status as a leading research institution in the field of tropical and parasitic disease control.
