Theodor Bilharz Research Institute Strengthens Its Leadership as a Center of Excellence in Advanced Medical Training Through Hosting and Participating in WISE Egyptian Chapter 2026
In a new affirmation of the scientific expertise and advanced training capabilities of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI), the WISE Egyptian Chapter 2026 – WEO International School of EUS successfully concluded its activities.
The event was hosted by TBRI, which also contributed to its organization and implementation of its hands-on training program, with the participation of a distinguished group of experts and specialists in Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), as well as physicians and trainees from Egypt and several Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Tunisia, and Iraq. The event represented an important international scientific and training platform that highlighted the value of collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of advanced endoscopy.
The activities were held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Aziz, Acting Director of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute, and under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Ayman Abdel-Aziz, Head of Hepatogastroenterology Department, with coordination by Associate Prof. Dr. Khaled Ragab, the Institute’s Workshops Coordinator, and with the participation and support of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Ansary. The Institute played an active role in preparing, organizing, and facilitating the event, in addition to contributing to the implementation of the practical training component. This reflects its commitment to supporting continuing medical education and providing physicians with advanced training opportunities in highly specialized fields.
The event featured a comprehensive training program that included an intensive practical component through Hands-on Training, enabling participants to receive direct training and exchange expertise with leading specialists. The training was delivered by Prof. Dr. Hussein Okasha, Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Cairo University; Dr. Moaz El-Shaer, Lecturer of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Al-Azhar University; and Dr. Sayed Ghoneim, Lecturer of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Mansoura University, alongside the participation of specialized TBRI medical staff. Their contributions enriched the scientific and practical content of the program, bridging theoretical knowledge with clinical practice and the latest techniques in EUS.
The success of the practical component was the result of the integrated efforts of several teams across the Institute, beginning with event preparation and coordination, followed by the preparation of the Endoscopy Unit and the provision of the necessary medical, technical, and training resources, and culminating in the management and implementation of the hands-on training sessions in accordance with the highest standards of organization and safety. Dr. Abdullah Shehata, Director of the Endoscopy Unit, together with the unit’s medical, nursing, and technical teams and staff, played a key role in implementing the training program, in collaboration with the Anesthesia Team headed by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Zidan, Head of the Department of Anesthesiology. Their collective efforts contributed to providing a comprehensive training environment and ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of the activities.
For his part, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Aziz, Director of the Institute, emphasized that TBRI’s involvement in organizing, hosting, and participating in the training program of WISE Egyptian Chapter 2026 reflects its ability to play an integrated role in specialized scientific events. He noted that this role extends beyond providing infrastructure and medical and training facilities to include leveraging the scientific expertise and professional competencies available at the Institute for knowledge transfer and practical training.
He further highlighted the Institute’s strong commitment to continuing medical education as a key pillar for advancing the quality of healthcare services and medical practice. He stressed that organizing such international events provides an important opportunity for knowledge exchange and strengthening scientific communication among specialists, while also offering hands-on training based on the latest developments in advanced endoscopy.
He added that the success of the event reflects the spirit of integration and teamwork among the Institute’s various medical, technical, and administrative teams and disciplines. It also demonstrates the Institute’s readiness to host and organize internationally oriented scientific and training events, supporting its strategic direction toward strengthening its role as a center of excellence in specialized medical education and training.
The event received widespread appreciation from participants for the scientific and organizational standards, as well as the training facilities and resources provided by the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute.
Participants emphasized that the scientific, technical, and organizational support provided by the Institute contributed significantly to the success of the program and the achievement of its objectives. They further noted that the event demonstrated the Institute’s comprehensive ecosystem, bringing together scientific expertise, highly qualified medical professionals, advanced training capabilities, and strong organizational capacity.
These achievements further strengthen TBRI’s position as a distinguished center for education and training in advanced endoscopy, as well as its role in transferring cutting-edge expertise and building the capacities of physicians at both the national and regional levels.
