Theodor Bilharz Research Institute’s participation in World Patient Safety Day
As part of the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute’s participation in World Patient Safety Day, the Institute presents information and guidelines to raise awareness about the importance of safe medication use specifically by avoiding medication errors and minimizing harm caused by improper use.
Medication safety is primarily your responsibility...
Here are key tips for the safe and effective use of your medications:
1. Do not take any medication without a medical prescription
Even painkillers! What works for someone else may not be suitable for you.
2. Read the medication leaflet carefully
Familiarize yourself with the correct dosage, method of administration, and warnings.
3. Stick to the prescribed dosage and schedule
Do not double the dose if you miss one, and do not stop taking the medication on your own.
4. Beware of drug interactions
Inform your doctor or pharmacist about all medications you are taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
5. Store your medications correctly
Keep them away from heat and humidity, and in a safe place out of the reach of children.
6. Check the expiration date
Dispose of expired medications properly.
7. Do not share your medications with others
Do not use someone else's medication, even if the symptoms are the same.
8. Report any side effects to your doctor
Do not ignore any unusual reactions.
