The opening of a new cystoscopy unit in TBRI

Under the patronage of Prof. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Director of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute, the flexible cystoscopy unit affiliated with the Urology Department, headed by Prof. Mohamed Hussein Badawy, was inaugurated. This new step aims to enhance the efficiency of medical services provided to patients, especially in the field of early diagnosis and treatment of bladder tumors.

In recent years, Egypt has witnessed a significant increase in the incidence of bladder tumors, particularly among younger age groups. This represents a health challenge that requires prompt and comprehensive medical intervention. Specialists confirm that early diagnosis and tumor removal using the latest technologies, such as flexible cystoscopy, can greatly reduce the need for radical cystectomy and its associated complications.

Urology Department at  Theodor Bilharz Research Institute is one of the largest specialized departments in this field in Giza Governorate and Greater Cairo. It is distinguished by providing free services to patients, with a particular focus on bladder cancer patients, where more than 600 cases are diagnosed, treated, and followed up annually.

In a related context, TBRI  is in the process of establishing a specialized unit for the early diagnosis and follow-up of bladder cancer patients, which includes periodic follow-up protocols extending over several years, aimed at reducing disease progression and improving patients' quality of life.

As part of the expansion of the services provided, the outpatient clinic recently added a service for ureteral stent removal using endoscopy with only local anesthesia, without the need for patient admission to the ward, making it easier for patients to undergo this procedure in a short time and with minimal effort.

Theodor Bilharz Research Institute continues, with the support of its leadership and medical staff, to strive for providing the highest levels of medical and research care, keeping pace with the increasing health challenges and prioritizing the needs of patients.
