As part of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute’s ongoing efforts to promote interdisciplinary integration across medical specialties, the Institute organized a joint scientific day bringing together the Clinical Nutrition Unit and the Department of Hepatogastroenterology. The event aimed to highlight the vital role of clinical nutrition in patient care and the importance of incorporating early nutritional assessment and intervention into treatment plans, thereby contributing to improved quality of healthcare services provided to patients.

The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Director of the Institute and Chairman of the Board of Directors, and was organized by the Clinical Nutrition Unit in collaboration with the Department of Hepatogastroenterology. It was held as part of the Institute’s efforts to support scientific collaboration among medical teams and facilitate the exchange of expertise on modern clinical nutrition practices, particularly those related to inpatients and critical care cases.

The scientific day addressed the importance of early nutritional assessment and appropriate nutritional intervention as essential components of an integrated treatment plan. It also highlighted the role of clinical nutrition in supporting patients’ health status, reducing the risks associated with malnutrition, and enhancing recovery and treatment outcomes, particularly among patients with gastrointestinal and liver diseases.

The presentations were delivered by members of the Institute’s Clinical Nutrition Unit: Dr. Marwa Abdel-Ghany, Assistant Researcher in Public Health and Deputy Supervisor of the Unit; Dr. Engy Mohsen, Assistant Researcher in Immunology; and Dr. Mennat Allah Hossam, Public Health Specialist.
The scientific program also included an introductory lecture on lactose intolerance from a nutritional perspective. The lecture addressed the basic concepts of the condition, the importance of proper nutritional assessment, and the role of appropriate dietary modifications in its management, supporting evidence-based medical practice and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The event was attended by distinguished members of the Department of Hepatogastroenterology  and the Clinical Nutrition Unit, along with active participation from Ramida Pharmaceuticals. The company was represented by the Giza Area Distribution Managers, Dr. Ansary Mohamed and Dr. Ahmed Ramadan, as well as Dr. Reda Abdullah Ali, Executive Medical Representative. The company’s team contributed to supporting the scientific meeting and enriching the discussions, reflecting the importance of partnerships between healthcare institutions and the pharmaceutical sector in promoting continuing medical education and the exchange of expertise.

In this context, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz emphasized that integration between clinical nutrition and various medical specialties is a fundamental pillar for advancing healthcare delivery. He noted that focusing on early nutritional assessment and intervention, particularly for patients with greater nutritional needs, contributes to supporting treatment plans and improving health outcomes. He further highlighted the Institute’s commitment to strengthening collaboration among its medical teams to ensure more comprehensive patient care, with patients’ needs and quality of life placed at the forefront of its priorities.

The event concluded in an engaging scientific atmosphere characterized by active interaction and the exchange of knowledge and expertise, reflecting the Institute’s commitment to continuing to organize joint scientific activities that promote interdisciplinary integration, keep pace with medical advances, and contribute to enhancing professional practice and the quality of patient care.
